Matt's work as musical director has taken him to places as far as Melbourne and Delhi. His work includes large choral works, professional theatre, children's theatre, outdoor theatre, youth theatre, choirs and bands.
Theatre In The Quarter Matt is founder and artistic director of this new and exciting musical theatre company, based in the Garden Quarter (close by University of Chester) of the city. The company aims to provide new opportunities for professional, community and young people's theatre for the city and beyond. The first production 'Some Sunny Day' (based on real experiences of local people during the Second World War) was a complete sell out and provided a wonderful beginning for the company. 'Sweet Sixteen' was the second sell out success, performing at the Gateway Theatre, Chester in September 2006. This was followed by their first large scale professional and community production 'The Twelve Days of Christmas', performed to full houses, and great acclaim, in St Thomas of Canterbury Church in December 2006.
A Handbag of Harmonies Matt is the arranger and musical director of this 50-strong choir of handbag swinging divas. They have clocked up an enviable reputation and list of performance venues both in locally, nationally and internationally.
Jigsaw Music Theatre Company Matt has been Musical Director and Composer with Jigsaw for 12 years. Original musical productions include Big Nose, Going Underground, The Brutal Truth, The Princess Who Couldn't Sing, The Man In The Balloon, The Roses of Eyam, The Selfish Giant, Millennium Bugs, Unsinkable, The Village Cross and Lord of the Flies.
Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts Matt has worked as a sessional tutor, mainly as composer and musical director with diploma, degree and post-graduate acting and music students. He also arranges and directs the large Actors' Choir. Compositions for LIPA pieces include The Happy Prince, Titanic The Experience and Nicholas Nickleby.
International Schools Theatre Association Matt has been musical director with international youth projects in Melbourne, Yangon, Tanzania, Vienna, Hamburg and New Delhi.
The Chester Mystery Plays 2003 Matt was both composer and musical director for the highly acclaimed Mystery Plays 2003. Directed by Robin Goddard. There was a large cast of 200 including musicians and a 40 strong samba drumming group.
Chester's Prom Praise Matt is joint musical director with this annual event in Chester's cultural calendar, bringing choirs, theatre groups, soloists and musicians together under one roof.
